Supporting Participation through Responsible Governance
Keep Malaysia Clean (KMC) is a voluntary, values-based national platform that encourages participation in building a Clean Malaysia through shared values, experiences and everyday actions.
The platform has been developed to provide a consistent and credible framework that may be used by individuals, communities, organisations and institutions across Malaysia. Protecting its intellectual property helps preserve the integrity, consistency and long-term sustainability of the platform while supporting open participation.
1. Our Approach
KMC is designed to encourage participation, not restrict it.
The purpose of copyright and licensing is to support the responsible use of the platform, its methodology and its resources so they continue to reflect the values, purpose and principles on which KMC is founded.
Wherever possible, KMC seeks to balance open public participation with appropriate governance of its intellectual property.
2. Participation and Implementation
Participation in KMC remains open to all through the public Platform. Organisations and institutions may choose to participate more formally through governance arrangements appropriate to their Participation Network.
Where organisations are authorised to implement KMC within their own organisations, sectors or constituent communities, implementation is supported through licensing that provides access to KMC implementation resources and protected intellectual property necessary to support implementation.
3. Intellectual Property
The intellectual property associated with Keep Malaysia Clean includes, where applicable:
- Keep Malaysia Clean (KMC) identity and branding;
- DOAMY™ Framework and related methodologies;
- platform content, publications and guidance materials;
- visual identity elements, graphics and design assets;
- participation resources and supporting documentation; and
- other original materials developed as part of the KMC platform.
Unless otherwise stated, these materials remain the intellectual property of Keep Malaysia Clean or their respective owners.
4. Participation by Individuals
Individuals are encouraged to participate openly through the KMC platform.
No licence is required for individuals to participate, contribute experiences, share perspectives or engage with activities made available through the platform in accordance with the Participation Terms.
Participants retain ownership of their own original contributions. By submitting content through the platform, participants grant KMC permission to use, reproduce and display those contributions for the purposes described in the Participation Terms.
5. Participation by Organisations and Institutions
Organisations and institutions may participate through governance arrangements appropriate to their Participation Network.
Where organisations wish to implement the KMC methodology, use the DOAMY™ Framework, adopt KMC branding or deliver structured KMC programmes within their own organisations, sectors or constituent communities, an appropriate licence or written permission may be required.
Licensing helps maintain the integrity and consistency of the methodology while providing authorised access to KMC implementation resources, enabling organisations to apply them appropriately within their own organisations, sectors or constituent communities.
6. Responsible Use
KMC welcomes the sharing of its ideas and encourages references to its work in educational, community and public interest settings.
Users are requested to:
- acknowledge KMC where appropriate;
- preserve the integrity of the framework and associated materials;
- avoid representing modified materials as official KMC resources; and
- seek permission where the intended use extends beyond normal public participation or reference.
7. Enquiries
Questions relating to copyright, licensing or the use of KMC materials are welcome.
Enquiries may be submitted through the Contact page, where the KMC team will be pleased to provide further guidance where required.
KMC believes that participation grows through openness, shared responsibility and mutual respect. Copyright and licensing support the responsible governance of the platform and help ensure that its methodology, resources and identity continue to be applied consistently for the benefit of all.
